WHO IS MALIK KHAFOURY?

  • Malik Abdul-Hussein Khafoury was born in Iraq on the fifteenth of July 1950. During his childhood Iraq was socially and politically unstable due to the many popular uprisings in the country and the revolution of Abdul-Kareem Kasim who fought against the monarchy.

In 1964 he traveled to Lebanon in search of a more promising future. For some time, he devoted his time to his study which he finally had to abandon as a result of economic problems.

In 1967, as a result of the war of Lebanon, he was forced to immigrate to Kuwait. There he found work as a salesman preferring that to going back to Iraq and being obliged to serve in the tough military. In Kuwait he met Leif Castberg, the Norwegian Honorary consul. The Castberg took Malik Khafoury in and helped him find his own place and access to education in a private English school. Two months later he won a chess championship and a swimming competition and he was named school's captain, for which he was awarded a grant. He still maintains close relationship with the Kuwait owners of the school, who have other property and ties in Spain.

  • In 1970, he traveled to Norway and thanks to being considered the adopted son of the Castberg family he was given a Norwegian passport.
  • In 1971 Leif Castberg was posted to Spain as first secretary of the Norwegian Embassy and Malik Khafoury came to Spain with him in search of new opportunities.
  • One year later, in the 3rd of January 1972, he got married to the Spaniard Anna Monsalvez Rubio, with whom he went to Norway to work in Dessert Industry.

Having finished a course in Hotel managing he was given a job              in Norwegian Airlines (company for tourism).

  • In 1973, he returned to Spain with his wife and obtained the Spanish nationality. He found a job in an Anglo-Spain Company called 'SETEC". For the first months he worked as a volunteer so as to be able to show the company his skills in the business and was then made chief of export for the company. In the time being he obtained in Spain seven awards in swimming in local competitions.

·     In 1979, he traveled to Brea de Aragon, where he went into partnership with Mayor of San Juan in foot wear industry and he set up his own company which was devoted in exporting shoes and organizing small commercial fairs. A little later, he signed an exclusive contract to represent multinational companies Clarks, Levi's and Wrangler's in Spain, besides starting manufacturing his own trademark material, Donmaik and Khafoury. In a very short time, he had a total of 12 factories which offered employment to around 5,000 people. He was one of the first Spaniards to expose his income and pay taxes.

·        In 1984, he arrived in Madrid and started building Luxurious chalets in Parque Conde Orgaz. Having built them he rented them out to diplomatic entities of nationalities such as Malaysian, Dutch, Arab Emirates Embassies, the National bank of Paris, Bosch, etc.

·        In 1987, the long drawn Iraq-Iran war led Malik Khafoury to use his own capital to establish a foundation for peace, against hunger and discrimination. I that same year, during a dinner held in the Norwegian Embassy he met the Ambassador of Iraq, Arshad Tawfik. From that time on the Khafoury and the Tawfik families began to a close friendship completely distant from politics.

·        In 1988, the Iraqi government via its Ambassador invited the foundation for peace to attend a conference in Baghdad. On this occasion and after 25 years of not visiting his Homeland, Malik Khafoury traveled too Iraq accompanied with his wife, children, Padre Raul who was then the secretary of the society, currently a priest in La Moraleja and Clara Loopez de Leton, the vice-president of the foundation of which Malik Khafoury was president. The objective of the foundation was to fleet a ship in the Arabian Gulf calling for an end to the war.

·        In 1991, he traveled to Iraq again representing his foundation as well as "Doctors without Borders" Society to ship off humanitarian aids consisting of medicine to Iraq to be delivered to various hospitals. Following his first visit to his homeland in the 1988 commercial business with Iraq began. He became in touch with several state companies such as Bata which was specialized in manufacturing leather wears. He continued to visit Iraq representing numerous Spanish companies and negotiate the signing of various contracts such as the one signed between Induico and Elcorte Ingles.

He was nominated Delegate Agent of Spanish private and public companies in Iraq, carrying out contracts with, for instant, the Empreas Nacional de Moneday Timber. He also brought Iraqi public and private companies to Spain (some agreements are still in force).

He lives in Iraq now. Just two days prior to the outbreak of the war he finished the construction of a 1300 sq.m building meant to be a Spanish-Iraqi Commercial Center. During years of living abroad he sent money to his relatives in Iraq buying them eight houses, two apartments, shops, shops, and cars as well as aids offered to many people.

Malik Khafoury has maintained an excellent relationship with Iraqi diplomats in Spain and with Spanish in Iraq such as with ex-charge d'affaires Eduardo Quesada; the first secretary, Miguel Moro; the commercial attaché Miguel Angel Lriso and other personal in the embassy. His last patriotic contribution to Iraq pre-war was organizing, depending on his strong relations with many diplomats, a trip called "The Way Baghdad".

Late March 2003, during the war on Iraq, Malik Khafoury thought of establishing a union he gave it the name of "Iraq for the Iraqis".

After seven years of serious work the "Iraq for Iraqis" union is now valid and registered according to the authorized ICA (the Iraqi Assistant Center) as of 28-January-2004, since then Malik Khafoury, now the secretary general of the Union has been sparing no efforts to make the Union work for a best future of Iraq. The idea has been welcome by intellectuals and is waiting for support from all Iraqis.

Then he began a human and informative period during the War whereas he founded AL-Kanz informative Establishment which consists of many cultural, article, and sport newspapers. He also has supported the national teams and the Iraqi sports clubs, which are more than 140 clubs, with the newest sport requirements, and organized many of the sport and folklores carnivals for recreation the sport and art in Iraq.

Franck is my capital:

Many maybe think that I lived all my life at abroad or I came after the last change in Iraq, the fact that I had traveled on 1964 and comeback on 1986. Since that date my life was between Iraq and abroad whereas I have lived the difficult conditions as the Iraqi the Iraqi people lived. More than one had advised me to leave Iraq in the present time for the difficult security conditions which Iraq suffers, especially the emigrants whom came back to Iraq to live near their families whereas some of them were looking forward to found commercial projects. When they had discovered the difficult of living left Iraq at once to where they came from.

But I remained in spite of the difficult conditions as I believe that I am a part of the people suffering as they suffer, become glad as they become happy and my goal is not a political when I intended, but is a human sport to service the sons of this people. In spite of I had faced many annoyances whether they were personal or hatred from some people the reason was the personal misunderstanding no more. I had stayed in Iraq to present my services in democratic and human right throughout what I have witnessed in my long life which I have lived in the countries that are a source of democracy. My attention was towards youth and sport since I am from a sport family and my concern with the public teams reminds me with the my childhood and there are more than 100 000 public teams practicing sport, specially football in front of their houses and at a dust parks which are un eligible for playing; therefore I have undertake to take care of this important slice in the society throughout supporting them materially and from my own money without any foreign assistance whether is was from organizations or governments.

My Activities

The below is my activity concerning Election Out-of-Country Voting and other countries:

1-     I have come from Iraq to on 31/10/2004Jordan to meet the Iraqi community in Amman to see their conditions whereas I have met and lived with felt them. All of them have demanded me and asked for my support to pass their crisis which concerns their transgression of residency. I have started with them in the first initiative which I have submitted to the Jordanian Government requesting amnesty of taxes and fines concerning transgression of residency law for Iraqis in Jordan. And since 13/11/2004 I have traveled to Spain and Morocco for the informational demonstration on the base of continuing to visit all countries, but I have got surprised when I known that the Out-of-Country Voting Program includes only 14 countries. I have comeback to Amman to meet some high people in the Jordanian Government to ask for achieving amnesty.

2-     I have started printing initiative asking for amnesty for Iraqis and published (3000) copies and distributed among Iraqis to be known that I the only candidate who demands to assist them. As well about 13 thousand of my CV, more than 10 thousand pens, 5 thousand lighters, and 7 thousand calendars have been distributed.

3-     I have asked by the Jordanian Security Offices to presented and for three days accompanied by my colleague Ahmad Abed Khayoun about the sense of distributing brochures and initiatives concerning with amnesty whereas I have explained the idea of my presence as a candidate presents his CV for Iraqi community and demands with their support of amnesty whereas I have been received with politeness and by all and they have offered all chances of support.

4-      I have submitted a request to the Iraqi government on 16/12/2004 addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affaires asking for renewal and issuing passports without any charge as well I submitted another request to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq care of The Iraqi Ambassador in Amman when I have comeback from Baghdad to follow my activity in Jordan.

5-      I have gone to Ministry of Interior in Jordan and submitted them my request of amnesty of Iraqi.

6-      I have presented to the Royal Palace (Raghdan Palace) accompanied by my colleague Amad Abed Khayoun for meeting the majority of King Abdulah II the honored concerning with the request of amnesty , but because of his involving in the issues of his country I have submitted my request to the Royal Hall on 13/12/2004 and also re-submitted my request again on 30/12/2004 and during my processing, my initiative has been honored by the agreement of king Abdulah II to accept the amnesty for Iraqi with %75 and the happiness has covered al the Iraqis and the decision has been published in Aldustour Newspaper on 20/1/2005 as well I have also published the text of the decision in my newspaper Alkanz on 20/2/2005 and about 17 thousand copies has been distributed among Iraqis in the country. I have met the Iraqi Chief of Ministers Dr. Ayad Allawi in Amman and submitted him a copy of my request concerning With amnesty of Iraqis which I have submitted it before to the Jordanian Government and the Royal Hall I have informed him about it.

7-      I have sent my colleagues Fayeq and Ahmad Abed Khayoun to Syria on 12/1/2005 with 3600 brochures of my CV, but the brochures has been impounded at the Syrian Borders in the Customs Department where they have arrived in Syria and presented to the Ministry of Information in Syria to get the permission of bringing the brochures into Syria and distributed them, but they have not obtained any permission at that time. Then they have comeback to Jordan on 13/1/2004 and returned the brochures from the Borders.

8-      I have traveled to UAE on 17/1/2005 and taken with me 5000 colored brochures, but they have been impounded at the airport by the Security Office in Dubai. I have been allowed to publish my demonstration in this country and visited the Satellite Channels whereas the Arabic Channels has asked me and Alsharqiyah amount of (US$100,000). I have met Alfayha'a Satellite for three hours and this meeting has been re-showed more than 25 hours, as well I have met MBC Channel. Then I have comeback to Amman and all the brochures has been returned.

9-     As well I have traveled to Syria with Mr. Ahmad Abed Khayoun on 27/1/2005 and with 2500 brochures, 2000 calendars, 1000 pens for demonstration, 1000 lighters, and 400 table pens, after I have get the permission to bring the brochures into Syria by the Embassy of The Arab Republic of Syria in Amman by the charge'd' affairs Mr. Ghazi Altheeb and we have arrived and we met with our Iraqis and distributed the brochures day and night. Then we have comeback to Jordan on 28/1/2005 at night.

10- I have conducted many meetings with Press, satellites, and all visible and audible media. I have met Alghad newspaper on 20/2/2000, and met British newspaper, American newspaper, and New Your Times, United Press International newspapers, and American, British TV, BBC English, and all Arabian And International Satellite Channels. I have published advertisement of demonstration in Aldustour for 28-29/1/2005 and with the cost of (JD700).

And on 28, 29, 30/1/2005 the Elections have been conducted and I have went to vote in Jabal Alhussain Centre with my own camera, and one of the voters has brought my attention, since

He was illiterate and want to vote, this was a rare case so I have

taken him a picture, but I have been surprised by some Iraqi employees when they have refused and they informed the director of the program whom was presenting at that time Mr. Azar Always, he has taken the camera and got off the film out of it and ordered me to get out of the center and taken my badge and called the authorities, the police at that time and did not respect my the film which consists of 30 personal pictures.

I have gone to the Commission and submitted a complain against them demanding them to take off their cell-phones, because they have used them for cheating of votes for another parties.

The sorting of votes has been in Alqastal Area on Airport Highway on 31/2/2005 and I was on of the supervisors as well Mr. Ahmad Abed Khayoun one of the supervisors.

My activity has been ended on 1/2/2005 where as I have got only 34 votes in Jordan, and this is non-expected and does not matching with my big and massive work and effort whereas it has been cleared that the issue of Election was solely absolute concern of religion, sectarian, and doctrinal matter.

And finally, Praise be to Allah.

In the Name of the Most merciful

A statement from the Election Candidate Malek Abed El Hussein Ghafouri

No.120 as political entity

The beginning, I would like to submit my gratitude, respect and appreciation to all brothers and sisters who put their trust on me and voted for me, furthermore they suffered difficulties and faced dangers to come o voting places in order to provide me sincerely their support and cast their votes in ballot boxes which reached up to 5519 vote. My almost thanks and gratitude for all what the submitted and provided. Also, I would thank to eachon who contributed, worked and exerted efforts to support me and my election campaign effectively and sincerely during many days؛ Whereas I have won despite I have not won a seat in the National/Council؛ Whereas I have won the fifth place (fifth winner) among votes order which every candidate had attained whom were about 7441 candidate. Furthermore؛ I have achieved the 38 th position as a political entity. Among all parties, coalitions, independents and other entities which participated in this election and were (111) political entity….. Thought I was an independent candidate without receiving any support from anywhere My aim has been to be among the country dignitaries and men whose ambition is build the country via contemporary and modern way.

Regrettably indeed that what the election process had generated from tilting towards certain group to have it be a winner while other group be a loser because of known reasons that are based on religious and ethic factors and not on intellectual and educational bases which the great Iraq treasure from Heritage and civilization rays. The result of these election have avoided political, social and scientific legends who would have an effective role. In the rebuilding processes of Iraq if they had the opportunity to have their seats of the National Council. In conclusion, I ask the almighty God to have this experience which it the first in this new era  to be as a station where on, the Iraq reflect and review their stands and correct some misleading concepts which can be avoided in the next election, and vote for politicians whom have worked to secure the country's needs and wants internal and externally.

With best regards

Independent Candidate

Malek Abed Al Hussein Ghafouri

Iraq Election                                                                        To the Media

We congratulate the Iraqi people for the election success, furthermore, we congratulate all those who participated in its success; in and outside Iraq. Also, we regret the inability of some political entities to participate in the election due to unsuitable conditions.

Thus, the Iraqi citizen has no right to object the lack of the security, electricity and life difficulty in general but what remained for him is hope because he has elected the same politicians who have been in power for more than a year and they are the ones who caused the Iraqi people to be deprived of these essentials, and have been disabled to find solutions to these crises before, then how they will be able to find solutions for it now? Consequently, and in contrast the Iraq will slid to the worse.                                                                                May be the people have driven it self to the religious convections due to the emptiness that engulfs the people.  Since fifty years, while avoiding the political reform and distribute its votes to other parties in order to build a country with multiple thoughts and ideas.

  1. Nominee Malik Abdul Hussein Khafoury No. (120) has earned best results; fifth in Iraq (as a person and vote) whereas he earned (5519) vote solely. If there was with him in the list as the list of United Iraqi alliance No. (169); members in the ruling council with their count (224) members, results would be (224*5519= 1236256 votes). Or if his list as the list of Kurdish alliance No. (130) had members in the ruling council, results would be (165*5519= 910635 votes). Or if his list was as the Iraqi list No. (285 the current Prime Minister) his results would be (221*5519= 1219699 votes). Or if his list was as the Iraqis list No. (255 current President), his votes results would be (132*5519= 728508 votes). Why in the world the elections higher commission had not taken into consideration the independents votes as the case of independent engineer Ali Musalam Jarallah Ali Al Baydani who attained third position of votes? Or AbdulSatar Jaber Katei Al Ubudi who came forth? candidate.

  1. Candidate Malik Abdul Hussein Khafoury No. (120) has attained (38) the position as a political entity in Iraq from (111) entities. Why the election higher commission has not looked into these figures in order to have seats for him and his alike in order to have variety of thoughts in order to defend human rights and Iraq?

What is the secret that (the consolidation and liberation list No. (311) whose names never been mentioned their number equals to the other lists, how the Iraqi citizen throughout and out of Iraq knew about them. Whereas independent candidate Malik Abdul Hussein Khafoury (through his deeds) has exerted great efforts in his private initiative successfully to obtain 75% reduction in fines for Iraqi citizens who are in breach of Jordanian residency law, from the Jordanian government whereas it met with great welcome and promises by the Iraqis in Jordan. Whereas many Iraqis suffered from the election campaigns deprivation in some countries which he has visited and still 30796 votes were registered.

The most important things is that, parties and the multitude of them, and lack of election campaigns advertisement for those parties are new things for Iraq and the Iraqis then (how they voted for the conciliation and liberation list?) does the name is beautiful and patriotic? If this is the case, there are more attractive zealous names and did not win. Does this anonymous list has received a gift?
